The Importance of Using a Detox Mask

As the name suggests, a “detox” face mask is designed to do just that: detoxify. Our bodies are exposed to an abundance of toxins on a daily basis that can cause our skin to look tired, stressed, and dull. These toxins are found in the food we eat, the water we drink, and even the air we breathe. Over time, the accumulation of these toxins can take its toll on your skin health, promoting wrinkles, fine lines and early aging.

Applying our detox-oxygenating reaffirming mask at least twice a week will help remove dead skin cells, improve the surface of the skin, and ensure that your pores stay clear of any dirt or grime that would result in those blemishes you just don’t have time for! As an added benefit, your pores will now be open and just waiting to receive all the benefits from products you apply afterwards. Your skin will feel softer and take on a beautiful, luminous glow.

Using our detox-oxygenating reaffirming mask also provides the following benefits:

  • Helps to draw out the buildup of impurities and deep clean pores.
  • Enhances the effectiveness of your other skin care products.
  • Keeps skin looking clear, vibrant and healthy.
  • Improves skin tone and texture.
  • Helps tighten and firm the skin.
  • Improves the evenness of skin tone and brightens dull skin.

Even if your skin is flawless and you have yet to spot a wrinkle, there’s no better time than now to start taking proper care of your skin so that you can enjoy youthful looking and wrinkle-free skin as you age.

Intrinsic aging vs. extrinsic aging

Intrinsic Aging

The difference between intrinsic and external extrinsic aging is that the intrinsic, or the natural aging, process is controlled by genetic or chronological aging. As we age cell turnover, skin moisture and firmness naturally decrease. In women, the decline of estrogen leads to less collagen and elastin production leading to wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of elasticity.

Extrinsic Aging

Extrinsic aging, is photo-aging, caused by environmental factors, such as pollution, climate, diet, and stress. Plus, preventable habits, like smoking, are other culprits. These factors are largely controllable, unlike intrinsic aging.

Intrinsic Aging

Some physical signs of intrinsic aging include:

  • – Surface changes
  • – Expression lines
  • – Wrinkles
  • – Dry and itchy skin
  • – Sagging or slack skin
  • – Loss of firmness (tension)
  • – Thinning lips
  • – Loss of fat

Color and tone changes

  • – Age spots, discoloration, and pigmentation irregularities
  • – Uneven tone
  • – Dull or lackluster skin
  • – Dilated capillaries (redness)

Although intrinsic aging begins in the 20s, wrinkles and age spots, may not show up for decades. Time passes, and we can’t change that.

While we won’t be able to stop intrinsic aging at the source until we develop DNA manipulation techniques, there are things we can do to slow the progress of intrinsic aging, such as a proper daily skin care routine of twice daily cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating, day and night.

Recommended Products:

  • purifying gel cleanser lifts away impurities, oi,l and makeup to reveal clean, fresh, refined skin that is ready to receive the benefits of other eraclea® products. It leaves skin refreshed and supple, never tight or dried out.
  • eye surround cream is a light, targeted, hydrating and firming cream designed to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye as well as on the lid. Special proteins work to minimize the appearance of under-eye puffiness and dark circles, while firming the delicate, sensitive skin around the eyes.
  • hydrating day lotion is a unique, lightweight yet ultra-hydrating blend of peptides, extracts and vitamins formulated to deliver moisture even after skin’s surface feels dry to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and fight premature aging.
  • restorative hydrating night cream is super-hydrating, non-greasy cream that works to firm, repair, and restore the skin while you sleep. This nourishing and hydrating formula not only helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, but also helps skin recover from environmental stress and refines texture for renewed radiance.

Extrinsic Aging

Extrinsic aging is also referred to as photo-aging because the sun is enemy number one when it comes to external signs of skin aging. The radiation from the sun’s UV rays accelerates the breakdown of skin cells, leading to sagging, pore enlargement, epidermal and dermal weakening, and wrinkling.

At its worst, extrinsic aging—due to overexposure to UV light—may also result in skin cancer.  Protection against UV exposure and pollution, giving up bad habits like smoking, and eating fresh, skin-friendly foods can significantly push back extrinsic aging.

Smoking accelerates extrinsic aging by causing skin discoloration, deep wrinkles, and poor wound healing. It restricts circulation and blood flow, preventing needed oxygen from passing to skin cells. The results are dilated blood vessels on the skin surface and the dull, sallow, gray-tinged complexions smokers are known for.

Staying out of the sun, quitting smoking, eating healthy and getting enough rest are all ways in which you can fight the extrinsic signs of aging.

Recommended Products:

  • daily bamboo exfoliant helps increase skin cell turnover rate and resurfaces the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores, age spots, discolorations and acne scars.
  •  perfectionist 4-in-1 cream with SPF 30 helps protect the skin against the radiation from the sun’s UV rays which accelerates the breakdown of skin cells, leading to sagging skin, pore enlargement, epidermal and dermal weakening, and wrinkling. Broad-spectrum UV protection (protection against both UVB and UVA wavelengths) is essential in the fight against sun damage.
  • intensive repair and protect serum/ vitamin C is an antioxidant that can help stave off UV-induced oxidative stress, or free radical damage.  Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage skin cells, leading to some of the very signs of aging we are so determined to avoid. Antioxidants help fight off free radicals, giving back the missing electron to the unstable atom, thereby fending off the chain reaction and keeping the damage from occurring.

Look out! Your Smartphone Might Be Causing Neck Wrinkles!

We’ve all heard about the potential issues that can arise from our smartphones; text neck syndrome, car accidents, sleep issues, cancer risk due to radiation, eye problems, to name a few. Yet no one wants to give up their smartphone, but this new revelation may change your mind. Your smartphone might make you look prematurely old by causing eye and neck wrinkles.

Squinting to read texts and emails can cause crow’s-feet and wrinkles to form around your eyes. Also, according to a study published in the journal of Surgical Technology International, slumping over the phone to type or read puts extra weight on the spine, leading to degeneration causing neck wrinkles.

Recommendations to help prevent these troublesome lines include: increasing the font size and brightness on your phone, holding up the phone to eye level instead of looking down, and the one no one wants to hear, giving up your smartphone!

Apart from lasers and injectables, or giving up your smartphone, the only other way to prevent neck wrinkles is through a proper skin care routine.

We recommend gently exfoliating with our daily bamboo exfoliant your neck and décolletage coupled with daily use of our neck and chest anti-gravity cream, an ultra-firming and restructuring cream that tightens and lifts the neck while reinforcing the skin structure.

Clear Up Summer Acne

Summer sun can feel so good: the warm weather, beautiful skies and the feel of the sun on your face. But with warmer weather, there can come a rather unpleasant side effect of increased acne.

Heat and humidity intensify oil production and clog pores, which in acne prone individuals, often means more breakouts.

Tips Improve Summer Acne:

  1. Wash your face after workouts: Breakouts can also be caused by sweat, and chances are you have sweat and dirt sitting on your skin, possibly clogging your pores and breeding bacteria.
  2. Wipe down your cell phone and anything that comes in contact with your face regularly. Here’s a simple rule: if you touch something germy and then you touch your phone, chances are those germs are going to end up on your face, so wipe down your phone or use an antibacterial phone wipe at least twice a week.
  3. Do you touch your face…excessively? Just like your cell phone, think about all the things your hands come in contact with. If you are going to put your fingers to your face, well, make sure they are clean!
  4. Wash your face thoroughly twice every day with a gentle cleanser and incorporate an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells and keep pores clear. Also, be sure to remove all your makeup before hitting the pillows!
  5. Don’t dry out your skin! Your skin may rebound by producing more breakout-building oils. Even if you’re sweaty or hot, it’s key to continue moisturizing and hydrating your skin.

Is Your Diet Aging You?

Poor food choices can cause inflammation and damage your skin’s collagen, which is what keeps your skin springy and resists wrinkles.

The good news is that tweaking your diet can slow the aging process. A nutrient-rich diet high in omega-3 fatty acids, as well as foods with vitamins E and C, play a big role in maintaining a youthful look and helps promote the production of collagen.

Unfortunately, the reverse is also true: The worse your diet, the more sallow your complexion will be. It seems like we are always hearing about what we should eat, so here are a few things you might want to cut back on:

  1. Trans fats and deep-fried foods can add to inflammation throughout your body.
  2. Sugar is linked to inflammation and produces wrinkle-generating AGEs (advanced glycation end-products). It may also affect the body’s ability to repair damaged collagen.
  3. Processed meats are usually high in saturated fats and contain nitrates; both of which can lead to inflammation.
  4. Fatty meats. The key with meat is to keep it lean. Lean options include: tenderloin cuts, 95% lean ground beef, ground turkey breast or chicken breast.
  5. Processed carbohydrates like pasta, bread, and baked goods can lead to damage in your skin’s collagen.
  6. Alcohol. Moderate drinking may be good for your heart, but heavy drinking can rev up the aging process. “Moderate” is one drink per day for women (such as a 5-ounce glass of wine or 12-ounce glass of beer) and two for men.
  7. Salt. Too much salt can cause some of us to retain water, which can lead to swelling causing puffiness around the eyes.

Summer Skin Care for Everyone

beach dusk surfers - 2

We all know that guys snoop into beauty products and with beard season just wrapping, guys are (though they’€™d never admit) thinking about their skincare. Who said luxe beauty products were only for women?

Summer skin care products, recommended for everyone:

      • Stressed, irritated skin from shaving, travel or too much sun, feels baby soft with pure hydration serum/zinc . This moisture-intensive serum rejuvenates and replenishes the skin, promotes healing and reduces redness.
      •  To get an even closer shave and to trade dead skin cells for glowing skin, our daily bamboo exfoliant helps increase skin cell turnover rate and resurfaces the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores, age spots, discolorations and acne scars.
      •  After a long day in the sun, it’€™s important to remember that skin needs replenishing. Our intensive repair and protect serum/vitamin C works to protect against cell damage, accelerate cell renewal and improve texture.

And remember, one beauty regimen shared by two makes packing easier for summer travel, saving precious space in those quart-sized bags.
